GREAT VIBRATIONS is a music appreciation program for preschool through second grade children, designed by George Oakley, to lay a strong foundation for further musical studies, while emphasizing the FUN-damentals of music. Children's inherent curiosity and natural joy in all things musical are enhanced through singing, movement, drawing, story-telling and hands-on experience with instruments from every family of the orchestra. Familiarity with several instruments enables students to make a more satisfactory choice of selecting one for private study. Students are introduced to the different dimensions of music such as pitch, rhythm, timbre and dynamics through familiar folk songs and experiments with sound. Interest in classical works is also brought to life through stories of the composer's early years and interesting historical footnotes about particular pieces. The following classes comprise our schedule. A brief description will help you to decide which class is appropriate for your child.

LITTLE VIBES for TWO AND THREE year olds is an entertaining class that encourages children to move and sing. Through singing, dancing, marching, and playing rhythm instruments, children learn a special type of cooperation which is inherent in group musical expression. Songs include refined finger plays, such as songs in sign language. Students are exposed to instruments from every family of the orchestra.Go back to top.

GOOD VIBES for THREE and FOUR year olds is the class where basic musical concepts are introduced, named and explored through poplar children's songs. Listening skills are heightened. Movement songs include refined finger plays such as songs in sign language. Students are exposed to instruments from every family of the orchestra and learn why the instruments belong to their respective families.

GOOD VIBES II for FOUR and FIVE year olds is adapted for slightly older children or 4 year olds who have been in the Good Vibes classes before. Go back to top.

GREAT VIBES for FIVE and SIX year olds is the class where children are introduced to composers and their works as they gain hands-on experience with instruments in each orchestra family. Students are introduced to the Italian terms that label general musical concepts and in addition to learning how to draw specific music symbols, such as notes, they practice singing them as well. The Spring program is offered in a 10 week session, organized by age. Tuition is $180.00 plus $10 material fee.Class size is limited so send your registration today or call 301.946.8863 for more information.
